South Downs National Park
Boundary Changes
I have received the following email which may be of interest to Washington Residents:-
"With regard to the South Downs National Park and its proposed boundaries I
am concerned that there is "empire building" going on to make the SDNP as
big as possible. The old South Downs Conservation Board had an annual
budget of about £1.2 million. They expect the budget for the SDNP to be
£5.8 million but if the area is too big it will be permanently short of cash
like the SDCB was. Surely the South Downs National Park should consist
mainly of the South Downs!
Does Washington Village want to be inside or outside the boundaries? Draft
map is available from www.countryside.gov.uk/proposednationalparks/.
Will the village benefit more from being inside or outside?
Final Countryside Agency Roadshow is at Shoreham Community Centre on
Saturday 2nd February between 11.30am and 3.30pm.
Another meeting organised by Upper Beeding, Bramber and Steyning Parish
Councils will be held on Monday 28th Jan at Beeding Village Hall."
