Welcome to St Mary’s, Washington!

We want to introduce you to your local parish church and to encourage you to consider coming along to find out for yourself why the role of the local church is so important in our community.

At St Mary’s we believe God continues to be able to work powerfully in our parish for the good of all. Indeed, without Him, we will never be able to reach our full potential either as individuals or as a community. But through the good news of Jesus Christ, lives are being changed and can be enriched beyond all expectation. And the good news is available to all, young and old, sick and healthy, you and me.

So do come along and see for yourself. If you have young children, why not bring them to the Sunday School or to the Family Service? Whatever your circumstances, we hope that you will always feel comfortable and welcome. This is your church!

Of course, we would always be delighted to speak to you if you have any questions about the church.

Church Services

The First three Sundays of the month:

9:30 am Holy Communion

and Sunday School

The service lasts about an hour with some traditional and some more contemporary, music and singing. The service is based around careful teaching from the Bible - designed to be relevant and practical to our daily lives - and Holy Communion - the central act of worship for Christians. If you can stay afterwards, there is time for coffee and a chat.

On the Fourth Sunday of the month:

9.30 am Informal Family Service,

suitable for all ages.

Great fun, informal mixture of music, drama, quizzes and more.

5th Sunday in the month:

10.45 am Combined service with St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Ashington

(venue alternates)

Sunday School (ages 4-10) and creche (0-3):

meet separately during the church service but join with the rest of the church family at the beginning of the service and during the celebration of Holy Communion.

Marriage and baptism preparation:

preparation is available for these important commitments. Baptisms are normally conducted as part of the morning service.

Mid-week:

2 small groups meet in people’s homes most weeks. The groups are really important and provide a chance to get to know a smaller group of people well, to study the Bible together, and to explore its practical implications for our lives.

Our Purpose

To know Jesus and to make Him known in our words and actions.

Our Vision
